I wrote "GTO" in physics class as a senior in high school in Nashville in 1964. I had a Goya classical guitar with banjo strings on the top three and played folk music around the house.

Bill Justis became my arranger and producer and formed Buckhorn Music with my mother, a country music writer. Justis said make up a group name and "Ronny and the Daytonas" sounded more likely than "John Wilkin" to do a hot record. There were plenty of great musicians around to work with and Buzz Cason, Bobby Russell, and Bergen White did vocals and writing. We were not as good as those Beach Boys we were imitating, but we had fun anyway.

Sundazed Music has a CD with some of my favorite recordings available on the web at www.sundazed.com. Songs like "California Bound," Tiger-A-Go-Go", and, of course, "GTO" are on the CD.
